About All Things Banana
All Things Banana collects everything banana-related from around the web in one place: banana prices, news, videos and how the big banana companies are doing on the stock market. It also has things to play with, starting with a 3D solver for the banana cube puzzle.
How the feed works
- Every 10 minutes we check news and video sites for anything that mentions bananas.
- We filter out things that only share the name, like the clothing brand Banana Republic or the phrase "going bananas".
- Every item links straight to the original source. We show the headline and where it's from, never the full article.
- Stock prices are delayed and are for fun, not financial advice.
Where the numbers come from
- Global banana price, and other fruit and soft commodities (oranges, apples, cocoa, coffee, sugar, tea, rice): the IMF's Primary Commodity Prices, published monthly.
- US shop prices (bananas, navel oranges, lemons, grapefruit, strawberries): the US Bureau of Labor Statistics' average prices in US cities, monthly since 1995. A few months are missing where the BLS didn't publish, such as during the 2025 government shutdown.
- Records and ranges cover the data we show, not all of history: banana import prices from 2010, most other series from the 1990s.
- One banana: the US shop price multiplied by the weight of a medium banana, about 118 g (0.26 lb).
Something slipped through that isn't about bananas, or should we be covering a source we're missing? We'd love to hear about it.
